In 2009, UBank, NAB's direct banking offering, attracted a significant customer base in its first year. MLC & NAB Wealth
MLC & NAB Wealth has more than 5000 employees who provide investment, superannuation, insurance and private wealth solutions to individual investors and corporate customers throughout Australia. The business also offers financial planning and advice through NAB Financial Planning, Godfrey Pembroke, Garvan Financial Planning, MLC Financial Planning and Apogee Financial Planning. In 2009, MLC & NAB Wealth made two strategic acquisitions:

• Aviva's wealth management business in Australia, including Aviva's life insurance operations and discretionary investment platform, Navigator. The acquisition adds scale, efficiency and new capabilities to MLC's operations.
• 80.1% of JB Were. Together with NAB Private Wealth, this will enable MLC to deliver an attractive wealth management offering for high net worth individuals.

MLC has led the industry in the transition towards a more transparent, fee-based advice model, rather than a commission-based structure. In PricewaterhouseCoopers 2009 Wealth Management CEO Survey, MLC was rated the most admired wealth management company for promoting trust and confidence in the industry.

Wholesale Banking
Wholesale Banking has more than 2500 employees located in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The business helps customer-facing people in Business Banking, Personal Banking, Wealth, MLC, the offshore businesses, and in Wholesale Banking itself, meet more of their clients' needs. Wholesale Banking's product and service offering includes funding solutions, investment solutions, client risk management solutions, asset servicing and research. Wholesale Banking also helps manage the Group's liquidity, funding and risk profile.

Wholesale Banking recently assisted AquaSure secure private funding for the construction of Victoria's first ever desalination plant. NAB was one of 12 banks that came together to privately source the $2 billion required to fund part of the government-sponsored project. NAB's Project Finance team joint led the sourcing of funds to support AquaSure's successful bid. NAB's Syndications team also helped the government raise a further $1.7 billion by attracting funds from domestic and international investors.
